As with many things in life, consistency is key to accomplishing your fitness goals. Finding a routine and rhythm that works for your lifestyle will set you up for success. Of course, you’ll need to do more than work out once every few weeks. But exercise doesn’t have to be long or stressful to be effective. How long should you exercise each day? Well, it depends–and I’ll dive into that shortly.
But if you feel like you’re too busy to workout, I have good news for you. The Fit Crew App is designed to help you achieve your fitness goals, no matter your schedule. It’s the best app for quick workouts that help you look and feel your best. (You can try it FREE for 7 days). Now keep reading to learn more about how to get a good quick home workout that fits your lifestyle.
How Long Should You Workout for Each Day?
If you feel too busy to workout, you’re probably wondering what the minimum amount of time you can get away with and still see results is. While it’s a good idea to move your body every day, you don’t have to do a dedicated workout each day to see results. Here’s an example of a weekly workout schedule that women in the Fit Crew App use to get results:
- Monday: Upper Body Workout
- Tuesday: Active Rest (move your body in a way that feels good to you)
- Wednesday: Full Body Workout
- Thursday: Active Rest (go for a walk, take a yoga class, go on a bike ride)
- Friday: Lower Body Workout
- Saturday: 1 Hour of Cardio
- Sunday: Full or Active Rest (let your body rest and recover)
Each upper, lower, and full body workout consists of a 25-45 minute exercise circuit. These include a variety of types of exercise, including HIIT, Metcon, AMRAP, weight-lifting, and more.
Are Short Workouts Effective?
Even though I plan all my workouts to be 25-45 minutes long, I understand that sometimes you’re too busy to workout for 25 minutes. But even shorter workouts can be effective when they’re designed to get your heart rate up and build muscle quickly. I always tell my clients it’s better to do a 10-15 minute workout (one circuit) than skip it entirely because you don’t have 30-45 minutes of uninterrupted time.
While short workouts can be effective, I’ll tell you what never works: quick-fix diets/pills, detoxes, extreme workout plans, and restricting yourself from the things you love. Consistency over perfection is the goal. You are way more likely to stick to your fitness plan when it fits your lifestyle and doesn’t keep you from the things, people, and food you enjoy.
How to Get a Good Quick Home Workout When You’re Short on Time
You can prioritize your health and fitness, even if you have a packed schedule and a busy lifestyle. Here are five tips to get a good quick home workout even when you feel too busy to exercise.
1. Schedule Time in Your Busy Schedule
Are you the type of person who will do something so long as it’s written down in your planner? Then write down your workouts! Treat each workout as an important meeting with yourself that you can’t miss. You’re way more likely to keep yourself accountable by scheduling time in your busy schedule.
2. Do a Full Body Workout
Focusing on compound exercises that work multiple muscle groups at once will save you time while helping you lose weight or increase strength. Save your upper or lower body workouts for days you have more time, and opt for a full-body circuit for a short, effective workout.
3. Increase Your Weights
If you’re doing a short weight-lifting exercise circuit, you can get a good quick home workout by increasing your weights. Lifting heavier weights for a shorter amount of time will help you achieve results.
4. Increase Your Speed
If you’re doing a body-weight exercise circuit, you can increase your speed to get your heart rate pumping and body sweating. Just make sure you don’t compromise form for speed. Proper form is essential to avoiding injury. (Learn how to do a deadlift properly and how to squat with the correct form!)
5. Have Your Workouts Planned for You
One thing that keeps busy women like yourself from working out consistently is not knowing what exercises to do. Maybe you know a few arm exercises or core workouts, but you get bored and don’t see results. That’s totally understandable and is why having your workout plans written for you makes a huge difference in getting results.
